The temporary first reception center is located in the former vaccine hub of San Giuseppe La Rena. Men, women and children are housed inside the facility. It consists of a space used as a dormitory (in which people are divided by both gender and nationality), a large walk-in closet in which to organize clothes to be provided as a clean change for those arriving carrying only a few personal belongings, the dining hall, and an office in which incoming people are registered.
The outside of the center features some tents used by the Italian Red Cross for preliminary medical examinations, while the former janitor’s house has been used to isolate people with infectious diseases.
